Acrylic, paper, thread, pencil and plastic on canvas. 12" x 36". 2018.
Inspired by the shreds and bits of purchase receipts, this piece explores the transition from earth as living tree to valuable record-keeping to meaningless waste, ultimately revealing our impulsive and shallow thinking as a society built around commerce. What is valuable becomes invaluable. The rise and fall of control and power while not even acknowledging the overall effect and lack of progress as a society. Due to this collective ignorance, our treasured cities may be someday underwater. Or this could just be a nice piece behind the couch that complements the cushions from Target.
